The Last Stand Update will be made available to all Left 4 Dead 2 owners on PC for free. Jaymes 'JAiZ' Hayward, one of the modders behind the project, says it's been in development for 11 months now.
'On Valve's side we've been providing code support and working on bug fixes,' Davis says, 'but everything else is the work of community members that's being integrated into the official game.'ĭavis and other Valve employees began actively providing support for The Last Stand after the team shipped Half-Life: Alyx earlier this year, which partially explains why the update's coming out close to a year shy of Left 4 Dead 2's ten-year anniversary. In an interview with Jordan Oloman for NME, Valve's Kerry Davis clarifies that most of the work in the update is indeed straight from the community. Not content to stop there, the update features 'hundreds of bug and exploit fixes' along with other new additions, like previously unused voice lines for the survivor characters. The team responsible for the update is also adding additional maps (four for scavenge mode and a whopping 26 for survival) and some new weapons (a shovel, pitchfork, and some guns from Counter-Strike: Source).
